Needless to say that, whether we are liking it, this is how we can make the most to keep up with the pace in providing our children the education they deserve. And if you are one of those who are trying to navigate the remote learning situation then let me tell you this you are not alone.

Although some of the educators have been familiar with hybrid learning and the use of technology in the classroom, truth be told operating entirely from an online setting is in fact demands our attention to push the reset button.

The online classroom is the only anchor that is keeping students and teachers together. Though the role of the teacher remains the same, nevertheless approaches to teaching have shifted a lot. And it’s not just about using the technology right, bringing learners together to a point where they don't feel left out or enabling them to have a sense of community is pushing teachers to adapt more creativity and innovation in their teaching strategies.

What Teachers Can Do To Best Adapt Remote Learning?

Know Your Tech Platform

It is obvious the platform you use to conduct the virtual class needs to be harnessed well in terms of its usage. Whether you use zoom or Google meet the more comfortable you are with your tech tool the more professional benefit you can take out of it. Plus this can also build up your confidence in relying upon the platform and coming up with solutions quickly if there is any uncertainty.

While you choose your platform, bear in mind that not all learners will be accessing through a computer/laptop and things can look very different on different devices such as mobile. Hence, ensure to check with the settings and also assist students when they need your help. Get yourself acquainted with online tools such as Interactive whiteboards, private messaging, waiting rooms, break-out rooms, assessment tools as they play a vital role in digital learning setup.

Set Realistic Goals

One important thing about making the most out of the current scenario is that teachers need to know how much work is doable in the online classroom. Yes there is a learning objective that needs to be covered, but the way to navigate learning virtually is to manage expectations – how much you as a teacher can do, how many lessons you can cover, and how much your students are able to grasp via screen time. The absence of physical presence cannot be neglected just because online teaching is our new reality.

Be Resources

As teachers, it is always essential to keep oneself resourceful. Starting from the learning materials to a way to keep students engaged to make learning more collaborative audio and visual tools, all of it is important, especially in an online learning setup. Also, ensure that your resource materials are well organized. If you are working from your laptop create files for each class, save materials with proper names. Meaning, save resources that are easily accessible and you don’t need to look for them like a hawk in the middle of the class.

Build Up Your Professional Portfolio

Lastly and most importantly, keep your teaching skillset upgraded. Though the internet can be of great treasure when it comes to ideas and techniques, not everything can be done only by reading about it. Teaching like every other professional field requires teachers to be constantly in touch with the trend and latest methodologies, which can be possible when the teacher takes time to participate in professional training. Virtual Online Teaching (VOLT) is one of them. Good teaching is all about the desire to keep improving. Bringing energy into your online classroom the same way you bring it to your physical classroom depends on how develop yourself both professionally as well as personally.

Final Words

As teachers, we already know that there is always be challenges in our ways. Most importantly, having an inner knowing that you can do this can also bring a lot of positive atmospheres both for yourself as well as for your student. In remote learning, the primary thing to keep a check is how your learners are getting along with the process. Above all. As these couple of years have been tough for all of us, just know that you are doing your best already as a teacher.
